My Beautiful Baby has Baby Acne!

You woke up your baby this morning and  their beautiful face is covered in red or white bumps otherwise known as baby acne.  This experience can be very traumatizing for a new mother but don’t worry because baby acne is common and occur in roughly 40 percent of newborns, and young infants. While it’s unknown exactly what causes baby acne, doctor’s suspects that it might be caused by your hormones during pregnancy that still present in your baby after it’s born.

Baby acne is usually red bumps or whiteheads that appear on the baby’s cheeks, head or chin area.  Although it's harmless and usually clears up after a few weeks or months, many parents want to know how to treat baby acne because of the reddish, blotchy appearance it gives to their baby's skin. Please do not treat them as if they are regular pimples.  Do not try to pop them or use medication. Wash your baby's face with warm water without soap once a day but if you feel the need for soap use an extremely mild, unscented, soap. As with adult acne do not use any lotions, creams, or oils on your baby's pimples as this may make the situation worse. I know you want to know how long this will last because you want to put on their new baby outfits for pictures but you have to be patient because baby acne is condition that you have to wait out.
It’s always wise to contact your doctor if you are not sure  or if the problem persists for more than a few months. Relax and you will quickly learn to look past the pimples and see your baby true beauty. Before you know it, they will be long gone.

Happy Father’s Day: Celebrating dads who inspire!

Will and Jada Smith

Fathers,  our special unsung heroes in most families. You don't need a special day to tell your father how much you love him.  Let Father's Day be your way to spread the message of love.  You may not be a baby anymore but knowing that you love him will make the world of difference to him so express your love in words and deeds. Touch his hand, or give him a hug. Say that you love him in tender words.

This Father's Day, make his eyes shine with happiness and pride.

Are you Getting Enough Sleep During your Pregnancy?

Sleep is on every expecting mom most wanted list!  It’ll be harder to get sleep when the baby arrives so getting sleep during pregnancy is necessary.  Unfortunately, sleep can be elusive for most pregnant women after the first trimester.  If you normally sleep on your stomach or back it can also become very frustrating trying to sleep as your body changes.  Back pain, leg & arm cramps, indigestion, baby kicking during the night and the need to use the bathroom can wreak havoc on your body and prevent you from sleeping through the night.

Find what works for you! There are a lot of suggestions on the best position in order to get sleep but every pregnancy is different.  Sleeping on your side is believed to be the best position but if this doesn’t work, try other methods like sleeping on a couch or recliner.  Make sure that you are wearing loose and comfortable maternity sleepwear.  Choosing the right position can improve your sleep and help relieve pain but have faith in your body to find the best position while you are asleep.
