You woke up your baby this morning and their beautiful face is covered in red or white bumps otherwise known as
baby acne. This experience can be very
traumatizing for a new mother but don’t
worry because baby acne is common and occur in roughly 40 percent of newborns,
and young infants. While it’s unknown exactly what causes baby acne, doctor’s
suspects that it might be caused by your hormones during pregnancy that still present in
your baby after it’s born.
Baby acne is usually red bumps or
whiteheads that appear on the baby’s cheeks, head or chin area. Although it's harmless and usually
clears up after a few weeks or months, many parents want to know how to treat
baby acne because of the reddish, blotchy appearance it gives to their baby's
skin. Please do not
treat them as if they are regular pimples.
Do not try to pop them or use medication. Wash your baby's face with
warm water without soap once a day but if you feel the need for soap use an extremely mild,
unscented, soap. As with adult acne do not use any lotions, creams, or oils on
your baby's pimples as this may make the situation worse. I know you want to
know how long this will last because you want to put on their new baby outfits for pictures but you have to be patient because baby acne is condition
that you have to wait out.
It’s always wise
to contact your doctor if you are not sure or if the problem persists for more than a few months. Relax and you will quickly learn to look past the pimples and see your baby true beauty. Before you know it, they will be long gone.
