The Importance of Prenatal Care

Prenatal care is very important for an expecting mother because it can significantly improve the quality of your pregnancy. This will make a difference with the outcome for both baby and mother. Babies of mothers who do not get prenatal are more likely to have a low birth weight and the chances of infant deaths are five times more likely to happen.  Visiting your doctor can also spot health problems which allow your doctor to treat them early. You also get to follow the progress of your baby's development, determin you due date, health history and find out if you are at risk. Call your doctor for an appointment if you suspect you are pregnant to schedule your prenatal care.

Prenatal visits are typically scheduled:

·         Every 4 weeks during the first 28 weeks of gestation

·         Every 2 weeks from 28 to 36 weeks gestation

·         Weekly from 36 weeks to delivery
